Apple has asked its suppliers to increase the production of its iPhone 11 models by up to 8 million units, about 10%, Nikkei Asian Review reported on Friday, suggesting that demand for the newest model of the flagship Phone is increasing.
"Previously, Apple was quite conservative when it came to ordering," which were inferior to those of the new iPhone last year, Nikkei said based on comments from a source. "After the increase, the production volume prepared for the iPhone 11 series will be higher than last year."
Nikkei said the recent increase in iPhone orders is concentrated on the cheaper price iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro model, but Apple has slightly revised downward orders for its high-end model, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, which has an initial price of $ 1,099.
“Despite all the clouds because it is the child symbol of the current commercial tensions between the United States and China, Apple is seeing a very solid trajectory in the demand for the iPhone 11 and challenges many skeptics who have been sounding the alarm during the last months, ”Wedbush analysts said in a note.
Apple's chief executive, Tim Cook, told German newspaper Bild earlier this week that iPhone sales recorded a "very robust start."
J.P. Analysts Morgan have also raised their iPhone shipping estimates and now expect Apple to sell 1 million units more than in previous projections.
Nikkei, however, reported that suppliers remain cautious and that they were concerned that the higher level of orders would not be maintained.
