The report admits that AI could also pose risks to the economy and jobs.
The Chinese Minister of Science and Technology, Wan Gang, said that an open source platform has been created to boost the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), within the national plan that aims to make the Asian giant a leader in that field by 2030.
"Open source platforms are needed for AI to play a greater role and facilitate entrepreneurs access to resources," said the minister during a press conference within the framework of the National People's Assembly (ANP), the highest Chinese legislative body.
By offering this technology on open source platforms, its scientific development and rapid expansion will be encouraged, which will allow the creation of a "new generation of artificial intelligence," he explained.
The Chinese minister stressed that this type of technology "has been an area of development in China since 1980", and now they want to lead the sector through a national plan promoted by the president, Xi Jinping, and that integrates all ministries, to apply it in all areas.
The promotion of scientific research and development remains a key part of China's policies, he said, with increased government investment and incentives.
"The level of scientific innovation has improved. We are leading in many areas and we are catching up on others," said Wan, who also insisted on the need to strengthen the regulation of AI technology.
According to the minister, the achievements of the investigation in China have had a "global impact".
A Chinese government plan announced at the end of last year aims to make the country a leader in artificial intelligence by applying these technologies to industry, urban planning, agriculture or defense.
The strategy establishes that the production of AI-related technology reaches 22,000 million dollars in 2020, 60,000 million in 2025 and 147,000 million in 2030, "placing China at the level of the leading countries in this sector and their application" .
