Huawei starts production of 5G base stations without US components

Huawei Technologies said it has started manufacturing 5G technology base stations without using any US componets and they has says the total station production is more than double next year as more countries introduce the technology.

Huawei anunció que ha comenzado a fabricar estaciones base de tecnología 5G sin componentes estadounidenses.

The company will begin mass production of 5G base stations free of US components next month, its founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei said Thursday at a forum.

"We carried out the tests in August and September, and from October we will begin to increase production," Ren said, adding that he would initially begin manufacturing 5,000 5G stations per month without US components.

Next year's annual production is expected to be 1.5 million units, compared to the estimated 600,000 for this year, which include those made with US components and those that are not.

The world's largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer has been blacklisted in the United States since May, fearing that its technology could be used by Beijing to spy. Huawei has repeatedly denied such accusations, but has taken steps to minimize the impact.

The sanctions have led to the loss of access to key technologies: for example, the latest version of its flagship phone, the Mate 30, will not include Google's mobile phone services.

Will Zhang, president of Huawei's corporate strategy, told Reuters that the operation of the base stations without parts of the United States was not "worse" and that the company "has had positive surprises," without giving details.

Ren said Huawei would like to continue using US components if possible because the company has "emotional ties" with long-standing US suppliers.
